I need to configure a reverse lookup for a remote VPN user.

Is it the HOST or LMHOST file I need to edit?

The user is on Vista.

Thanks,

HOST file is DNS which is what you are talking about. LMHOST is netBIOS or WINS so you need the HOST file

I have used the host file in the past, but recently noticed the LMHOST file too and wondered what it was. Thank you for the explanation.

Thanks.

The problem was actualy 'named pipes' with the SQL server so used TCP/IP and port number which resolved the issue.
