Is there a way to route or hook up a RAD to a computer com port so that I can terminal into that computer to program instead of wasting a phone line or having someone switch the line over for me to connect to a RAD? I have gotten spoiled with the BCM units.

Thanks!

Yes the RAD has a com port right on it....you need to go to site or speak to you I.T. department as they should know how to connect to a com from remote using ethernet and adaptor.

You might also be able to connect the RAD to a PC via the com port and then use PC Anywhere or similar software to call into the RAD via the PC.

If you have a public IP address or VPN router I'd go with Curlycord's suggestion.

Thanks Guys! Once it gets to a PC, then it is in my realm. I was told by a Nortel tech one time that the port (which looked like an RS232 com port)did not work like that. I suspected that he did not know what he was talking about. Thanks Again!!

My above post was rushed but...I dont remember the name of the device but in my NEC days somebody came out with that adaptor I speak of above where it's just a wee box but you can program it to have an IP....has RJ45 on one end for the switch and com out the other and sold for about $200...thats about around $201 for you americans lol.

Just Google serial to ethernet adaptor. That should yield several devices that will allow you to connect it to the network.

Beware the RAD will not work with an ip to serial devices, the Software needs to see a hardware port. I tried for many hours with thes2 devices and ended up using a remote desktop and the rad on a computer.
If anyone has gotten it to work I am alll ears

I was able to set up an automatic answer by the rad by setting up an ATA-2 as an extension (say 234) with the analog side going into an unused trunk port (say 049) then program the rad to pickup that trunk. dial into an AA wait for answer then dial 234 and you are into the rad. cost to you is in an ATA/IATA and one trunk port.

I used to have more than 20 RADS connected to PCs with PCAnywhere. The nice thing is that if you strip the operating system to the bare bones you never get a crash, you can back up locally and use old leftover PCs.
