I can see and use the homegroup including my desktop from my netbook running win7 starter but cannot see my netbook from my desktop running Win 7 home . The network map on my desktop shows my netbook but I don't see it looking at my network or my homgroup in explorer. I'm confused. My desktop is connected with a cat5 cble to my router and my netbook is wireless to the same router. All help would be appreciated I would like to see my netbook from my desktop. The two puters are in the same homegroup.(I think)

Since you can see one way but not both ways, I think it's most likely to be 1 of 3 possibilities:

1. Firewall on one machine or another if a third party firewall - needs to be configured for allowing local network sharing.

2. The network sharing/homegroup settings on one of the machines isn't quite right..

3. It could be a limit on the Starter edition. It does have some limits, I just don't remember what they are. For this one, you can look at:

and/or:

Also, if I may (not related to this thread directly), but thought you might want to know - if you didn't already:

On your website (linked in your post), it looks like the image you have there is too large, but resized by the web editor program you used. At least that's my guess, b/c it took a terribly long time to load the one image. I'd personally suggest you look into using a program or website to reduce the size/quality of the image so that it loads in a snap.

Of Course, Photoshop does this very well... File - Save for Web, or it may have changed wording in last version or 2, I don't recall..

Or if you don't have Photoshop, Google Picasa is free, and it has an export feature that works REALLY easily. Take a look at - in my opinion, it's THE best basic level photo viewing, editing, etc program.

Also, you could take a look at Gimp - go to to get the latest (non beta) release. It works very well as well, but it's not as intuitive as Picasa - if Picasa does enough, I'd go with it... if you need more power without spending money, go with Gimp.

Anyway, post back with your progress on the thread topic. If you want/need more help in the other thing I mentioned, post any question(s) over at forum253.

And please accept my apologies if it bothered you my making a suggestion on your website.

Duh!!! what a Doh head I am at times. My Netbook came with Norton and it was blocking my homegroup. Thanks for reminding me of the firewall kjv1611. I have photoshop and will optimize the image. Thanks for your input.

...also, re website, still off thread...

when viewed on my widescreen 1280x800 the phone number at the bottom of the screen is cut off as there is no scrolling offered...plus you have mis-spelled 'contact', you have 'conact'

sorry, I know this is not a critique thread for your site but it's amazing where we end up compared to where we started. [smile]
