I purchased a router for home earlier when I was planning to go broadband there, but because I have broadband at work and can use my laptop’s wi-fi around town I have delayed doing so at home because of reasons. Example: ATT-BELLSOUTH vs Earthlink’s-dsl and I have cable for my TV and their plans keep changing.

In the mean time I was thinking - I could hook my home-dial-up system to my router and back door using the router as a wireless LAN with dial-up for my laptop system, back through thru dial-up. Does anyone know if this will work or what problems I would have?.

The router probably has a DSL modem in it. What you can do is leave it connected to your PC as it probably is now and just share your connection over the network.

All other PCs will use the PC with the modem as the gateway.

When you switch to DSL, just change the gateway on all the machines.
