I have 2 machines both running ME, boh machines have bee succesfully connected together for the last couple of months with no real problems (only the occasional lockup when viewing object properties on the remote machine), but now both machines have lost their network connections. All protocols are installed and the cards show no problems. File & print sharing is enabled on both and both have the same workgroup. As a side note (which i don`t beleive to be connected) neithr machine will shut down correctly, windows exits the session and the machines just sit there with a black screen with white flashing cursor and the towers still running, exiting via the power button (only way) causes scandisk to run everytime on reboot. Any idears greatly appreciated.

How are the computers connected and what protocols are you using? Through a hub or crossover cable, TCP/IP and NETBeui or IPX/SPX? I would suggest first checking the cable connections and resetting the hub (if you use one). If you don't have any success there, reinstall the protocols and reset your network connections. In regards to the shutdown issue, Microsoft has a patch and here is the link.

My experience with the patch is that it doesn't always work but it definitely helps. I usually make sure to shut dow all programs and wait about 30 seconds, this usually helps to avoid the problem.
I hope this helps.

I ran into this same problem, and couldn't figure out what was wrong. Finally, I decided to re-name the Group names to a different name, and everything started to work again.

It's worth a try.
