Hello.

Could you please help with the following situation?

I have a windows 98 computer and a laptop with XP.

The two computers are hooked to a LinkSys hub/router (exact brand: wireless-G 2.4 ghz 54 bps Broadland Router)

i have a MainStreetXpress 27020 modem that is linked to the windows 98 computer (high speed connection).

Could you guide me on setting a home network? The printer i have is connected to the 2 computers independently (not via a network). I would like to share or send documents from one computer to another and be able to print from anywhere without hooking the laptop to the printer.

I don't have a wireless card on any computer and I enabled file and printer sharing on windows 98 computer.

Thanks for any hint.
mimi.

are helpful networking sites

Is it XP Pro or Home?

Bit confused by your set up. Router's are usually connected to broadband - but sounds like you're connection is direct to 98 machine. Unless you've got 2 connections? I'd have the braodband connected to the router, which would act as DHCP server and share the connection between the 2 PCs.

Also, what do you mean by 'The printer i have is connected to the 2 computers independently'. Printer can only be connected to one machine at a time - would normally share it on one to make it available to the other.

Anyway, have a look at those sites and post back if you need more help - with more info about your set up (I'm presuming you're cabling is correct - but would like to know how that router is configured - and is it the right sort of router for your internet - the modem is for ADSL, is the router?).

thanks.
i will have a look at these sites.
i will get back to you as soon as possible.

PS: about the printer, it is connected with a usb cable to the laptop and a regular cable to 98 computer.

the router is connected to the modem.

Never thought of doing that with a printer (take it you mean parallel connection to 98). Does it work ok? (eg, if both machines send prints at the same time)
