Two PC's - A connects to internet via USB broadband, connects to PC B via cross over cable.

PC A has file sharing so that PC can read & write to drives, PC B does not and can not connect to internet.

If I use Automatically Assign IP address on PC A then PC B can write to PC A very quickly. But if I give it a static IP address writing files is very slow.

The reason why I give a static IP is because the DHCP thing adds about 20 seconds to boot time and that is annoying!

Note that this setup worked fine for about a year, but I tried the ICS thing for a day and then ditched it. Now I either have slow booting or slow file sharing.

Set up is XP Home, 3C905, Abit NF7-S onboard card. Set to full duplex 100.

PC A Automatically Assigned IP was 169.254.34.136 / 255.255.0.0 if I set it to 'Use the following IP' and put in the same numbers that's when I get slow file transfers.

I'm just wondering what the following options should be set to:

Advanced TCPIP, WINS, Netbios setting = Default Use Netbios setting if DHCP, If static...

Should that be enabled?

I'm not bothered about ICS facility, just want fast network restored.
