Hi,

in the near future, we have to migrate all our "clients" from one Domain suffix to another.

This means, we have to rename over 250 Clients in Networker without loosing the indexes.

As i know you can not just rename the Clients, you can only add another "alias" but thats not really the solution.

is there any "how to" document to change the Names of Clients (only dns suffix), maybe a script which renames and change the association of the CFI Directorys ?

Networker is 7.2.2 on Solaris 10

I don't have the resource in front of me, but I know there's KB article on this at legato's site.

Hi Novelli,

as you said you can not rename a client. The problem is the client id which is tight to one name. A new client name will create its own index and use its own i ndex directory.

I cant believe that i will not sometimes happen, that big customers have to change their dns suffix (example when they got "overtakeN" by another company).

What will oyu do with 3000 clients if this happen ? Creat them all new ?

I am not a network specialist, but can this not be done somehow via a whatsoever "translation device".

As a temorarly solution everything is possible, but networker is a "enterprise" backup solution (emc says that) and a enterprise solution should can handle such a event.

Normally only a script is needed that changes the client id reference and the directory stucture.
