in powerpoint (office 2000 premium), when i run the slide show, i want to hide the pointer.

if i right click and select "hidden" from pointer otions, the pointer goes away. but, if i run the slide show again, the pointer reverts to "automatic" and just re-appears on screen.

how can i change some sort of option to ALWAYS HIDE the pointer no matter how many times i stop and re-start the slide show?

I don't believe there is a way to have the pointer hidden like you want. When automatic is selected it will also hide the pointer if the mouse is not moved for 15 seconds until you move the mouse again.

i just think it's rather silly for powerpoint to always put the pointer as "automatic" even though i specifically choose "hidden"

r u sure there's not even some sort of registry entry to do this?

this problem is even more of a nuisance when i've got about 3 presentation shows open at once. every time i switch between shows the pointer appears on the screen.

(btw i'm using a dual monitor scenario, where the slideshow runs on monitor #2 while powerpoint in on minotor #1)

Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + H to hide the pointer at the start of the presentation. This will prevent you from pulling up a distracting pop-up menu during a slide show.

But, does CTRL+L hide the pointer when you start and restart the slide show which is what fred45 originally wanted to do. Don't you have to do a CTRL+L every time you start the slideshow?

many thanks to all suggestions,

ctrl-H works to hide pointer for one show, but upon restarting, the pointer goes back to "automatic" and re-appears.

ctrl-L doesn't seem to do anything at all in powerpoint 2000?

i've looked at the shortcut list (by hasit) and there is the ctrl-L shortcut listed there. I think that's what i want, but it doesn't work.

during the slideshow, if i press F1, powerpoint shows its list of shortcuts, but there's no ctrl-L listed. what gives?

hey hasit!

i forgot to ask you what version of powerpoint will support the ctrl-L shortcut?

CTRL+L should hide the pointer for the duration of the slideshow. So even if you move the mouse around, the pointer will not appear. This setting is applied for the duration of the session (i.e. as long as you have PP running).

It works in PP97, so I checked Microsoft's website. The link above describes the same functionality for PP2000 so (stupidly) I assumed that it would work in PP2000 too!

Bizarre - no!?

I'll check out a couple of things on the web and come back to you.

Does anybody know of a registry entry that will permantly hide the pointer during a slideshow?

Fred45, just to let you know, I can't find anything on the web about this, nor did I get CTRL+L working on a 2000 machine.

I am not sure about the registry entry, but having done a search on registry, I found nothing to suggest there was an entry. I may well be wrong however.
