Does anyone know what reg key to edit to hide magnifying glass in Mcafee 4.5.1 sp1 from showing in the system tray? I know this can be done from opening the avconsole and choosing the option not to show, but I will be setting this up remotely for many pc's and would like to be able to edit the reg to automatically hide it (via a logon script). I've browsed Mcafee's support site and it explains hot to do in in 9x machines but not under nt, under nt the avconsol.ini does not exist. Thanks for any help.

This was for VirusScan 4.0x but haven't verified in 4.51

To hide the VirusScan Console icon,

1. Locate the AVCONSOL.INI file in your VirusScan directory using FIND or Windows Explorer, and double-click on it.
2. Under the section [General], change the value of ShowIcon from 0 to a 1.
3. Save the AVConsol.ini file.

After a reboot, the scheduler icon will not be visible on the taskbar.

Another option (tested on 4.51 but has to be done manually)below:

1. Open Control Panel/VirusScan
2. On the Components Tab, under VirusScan Console, uncheck "Load on Startup"

Hope this helps.

Ooops .. didn't fully read the post :)

You can try changing this registry key to hide the AVConsole icon:

HKLM/Software/Network Associates/TVD/VirusScan/AVConsole/General/bShowIcon

and change the value from 1 to 0

or

save this line to a .REG file:

------

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Network Associates\VirusScan\AVConsol\General]
"bShowIcon"=dword:00000000"

------

Hope this helps.
