Hi need dome help here port forwarding

Hi everyone,
I have a little problem here, my isp provider blocks all the ports on my network except port 22 and 111 and I got this info by scanning my ports using the service provided by

http://www.grc.com

( called 'SHIELDS UPP!!').

I see that he has put some other ports on stealth mode and
I heard that if I use some "port forwarding" method,I can create a tunnel throught the existing ports available and I can access the ports required.

Let me tell you about my infrastructure.
I use a P4 1.6Ghz with 256mb RAM running on WinXp.
( This is wat i actually use now while wat mentioned below are just there but I rarely use them)

I also own a P2 233MHz with 128 MB RAM. and I also have a D-Link HUB.

My operater provides me with an IP which I use to connect and he also provides me with a Gateway IP , and two DNS IPs.

I just scanned the ports of gateway from my computer and i see that

22
25
110
111 are the ports open on my gateway....

Port 110 is for pop mail, 25 is for sending mail(smtp; simple mail tranfer protocol. If you run a mail server it uses this port to send mail). If you're not running a mail server it shouldn't be open. don't know about 22 and 111, but if not used they should be closed as well. A decent dsl/cable router will have a firewall built in with which you can configure the ports/services that you expose to the outside world. This will do port mapping as well.

yeah here you are i know wat these port are for that is not the probelm i want to know how to allow these ports there is a method called "port forwarding"", that's wat i want to know how it is done and how i can use it to open my ports...

i have checked the ports on my DNS too and here you are

port 22-- SSH for remote login.
port 25-- SMTP mail service.
port 110--POP3 mail service.
port 111 --- SUN remote procedure call.
port 53-- DNS domain name server.
port 80-- HTTP protocol

now wat i want to know if i want to use port 4667 or 113 or port 69- trivial file transfer.... i have to go through a method called port forwarding .. which helps me to create a tunnel in the existing ports and use the required ports.

What type of ISP are you using? Cable Modem? DSL? Dial-up, etc.? If Cable Modem or DSL, are you using any type of router or do you connect your pc directly to the modem?

Like I said, a router can do this. Mine is a d-link DI-604, and in the firewall that runs on the router is an option to map ports. for example I can open port 66 on the router but have the packets it recieves on that port forwarded to a different port on the computer, say port 4667. I don't think the ISP can block ports on your comp, they are normally closed unless in use by some application. They may be scanning ports to see if you are running services (FTP port 21 for example ) that you are not allowed to run.
Other ways to do this are software based, like I think that Winroute pro can do this. I don't know of any way to do it in windows without extra software or hardware...

well rockerfellerz i have a D-Link DE-809TC ETHERNET HUB is it similar to a router, can i use some kinda software to do this .. I mean opening the ports.

Is "Kerio WinRoute Pro 4.2" same as Winroute Pro that you have mentioned....

Unless you can find a free version of the software, then your best bet if you have DSL or Cable would be to purchase a router such as one from Linksys, Dlink, or Belkin.

From a quick look at that software, I only saw a Professional version that starts around $150. You can purchase the Linksys or D-Link router for under $50.
