Hi all,

The people in my student house have a problem with their computer (OS Nt 4.0). Some program has altered some registry files and they can't log in as administrator anymore. Furthermore, the BIOS password was set long time ago and nobody rememberes it.

Questions:

1. Does anybody know how to get into the BIOS if you don't know the password? The booting sequence starts with the hard disk, i.e. I can't use any book disk or boot from the installation CD.

2. Is there any possibility to change the admin password in the given situation?

Thanks for any hints,

Gosh that would be really useful info if you wanted to hack someones computer wouldn't it. Peter Meachem

1. You would have to check the Motherboard manual (or website) on how to reset the BIOS. Usually, it's a case of moving jumpers (not the knitted student-type)

2. As Peter says, that sort of information is not generally available due to the damage a potential hacker could do. What you could do is to slave the hard drive into another machine and access your data from there. Failing that, rebuild the damn thing and take away your friends student beer money for being such a fiddler! "It's true, its damn true!"
