Hi All,
After installing in XP Pro my old Trust Flatbedscanner with the "latest"driver, XP keeps in the system tray the icon: -safely remove hardware- the scanner works perfectly but Xp want to remove it. How can I get rid of the icon?

It does not want to remove it. It is a general warning for USB and other removable devices that in if you should choose to unplug the device you should tell XP nicely about it first.

I know that, but I want to get rid of the icon....
I own the machine you know...

right-click the start button or task bar, properties, task bar, customize, scroll till you see the icon, and make its property Always Hide. Apply.

I got the message - I cannot remove the icon (it's harmless) I have to hide it ( i've done so )But after installing a new skin etc. and using a MRU cleaner I have to do the hiding again. It keeps you busy....
Thanks anyway for your support!

You might look at the feature for disabling notificatiion icons in the new Tweak UI 2.10. I have not experimented with this yet.

Hi BCastner
When you uncheck "show taskbar notification icons" in Tweak UI 2.10 you let the whole systray disappear and in the properties of the taskbar you cannot use "hide inactive icons"anymore.
So this is very drastic, but useful for real minimalists.

Thanks pietbhai. The new tweak ui is on a long list of things to play with, but I was hoping from the feature description it would allow selective removal of notifications. Alas.
