I have a ACS R7 (about 5 years old) and the customer complains that the light for HFAI continually goes out. To me it is not a problem but they don't like to continually press the button. I cannot duplicate the issue with my own R7.

Is this a phone problem or a ACS problem. Is there a solution?

When does it go out? In the middle of a conversation?

If it isn't an equipment problem and they want it on all the time, they need to press the Mic/HFAI button when the phone is not in use. The Mic/HFAI will stay on, and they will be able to speak through the speaker on both outgoing and incoming calls without pushing the button.

they know to press the Mic/HFAI once and it should stay on forever. Problem is that it goes out without pressing it and they are annoyed. I said I would try it out myself, my light always is on.

So I am wondering if this is a common problem on early release R7 processors. The phones are mostly 18 and 18D euro style (first version).

Verify proper grounding and power on the system. If the phone looses power or voltage to the phone drops it can/will drop the HFAI. Could be a sign of a failing power supply in the CU.

Maybe nothing is wrong!

Is the person picking up the handset to talk on phone calls or something? They may not even think about it when they do it. The HFAI light goes out when they pick up. Then when they hang up after their call, they don't notice that the light is off until the next time the phone rings.

I've had many unexplained intermittent failures that turn out to be operator trouble...

;-)

well, we figured out the system was losing power due to a bad UPS. we'll see now that the UPS has been replaced.
