Hello:

I am working on a project for a website and I am wondering how I would make a pattern of hexagons with a filter. I have seen this done before. This is in Photoshop 5.5, btw.

Thanks for any help in advance,

You wouldn't need a filter to do this -- you can easily use Photoshop's "Define Pattern" function. Simply create an image like the following:

Well... perhaps nevermind the drawing. Basically an "X" with vertical bars in the center and appended to the upper left limb. Then use your rectangular marquee to select the object, select Edit->Define Pattern, create a new layer, then Edit->Fill using your Pattern. That should give you hexagons. I'm not near my Photoshop workstation right now, so I can't test out the image above, but I think that's right.

Good luck,

Wow! Thanks a lot for that. I am also not near a Photoshop machine now, but I will try it when I get home.

Thanks,

Basic recipe for any repeating shape:
Make a shape, duplicate it and arrange copies around the original. Flatten all copies to one layer. Marquee from a known point (like a specific corner) to corresponding points in the copies. Copy and define pattern. Done.

Gets more complicated if you want the copies to be different in some way; then you need to copy the group of copies and go from a specific corner of a specific copy.

Hope this helps
