Help! Word Doc File Size Growing 1

Hello,

I am working with MS Word. The document start at 700
pages at about 3 MB. All of a sudden, after a couple of
saves it is now 10 MB, who no new info added.

Then after another save the document has grown to 16 MB.

I tried to split up the document, but when I stripped out
everything and left my title page and header, it is still
13 MB.

What is going on? I can't work with a file size that
big. Why is it so big. Can I reduce it. I mean it doesn't make sense that one page is 13 MB.

Please help.

Try opening your document, select all, new document, paste.

Save it and see what the file size then

I had that problem once and the above solved it, something to do with the formatting that became corrupt. Whether it was right or not I dont know but anyway, it worked.

It made me lose all formatting which I have been working on for 2 days.



At least I can still continue to work now though.

Next time, just try saving as RTF, close, reopen and save back to a doc.

Hi, same problem here. I have a 450 page document, with about 390 pages of tables. Initially, it was about 5.5 MB. I removed a company logo graphic from the header field, thinking that would make the file smaller. After saving, it ballooned to over 18 MB. I tried the suggestions in this thread and managed to get it down to 15.9 MB. I also made sure that Fast Save was not enabled (on the Save tab in Tools > Options) and that it wasn't saving versions (File > Versions). Can't think of anything else to bring this baby down.

Otherwise, check that it's not the pictures. Save to a new file. Cut each picture, and edit-paste special-as a picture (JPG preferred if available).
