I know this is not the best spot to post this but I have no time ... can anyone help with the problem outlined below:

Word 2000 - No menu, toolbar, only a ruler. Cannot press ALT-? to get menus.

HELP need a solution on how to get the menu bar and toolbars back....
What has been done:
Office completely uninstalled and reinstalled.
cheers

sorry if it looks stupid have you tried to right click in the border above the ruler
and check:tools and other needed tools?

Thanks for the response, but that is not possible as the tool bar / menu bar does not exist !!!

Hence the frustrations .... I have even run the "Restore default menus" and that didn't fix it ....

unhappy :-(

instead of reinstalling have you tried to popin your CD
and go to repair office.
also I found that:

Set up or remove individual components
1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
3. Click the Install/Uninstall tab.
4. Click Microsoft Office 2000, and then click Add/Remove.
5. Click Add or Remove Features.
6. Click the plus sign (+) next to Microsoft Outlook for Windows.
7. Click the option you want to add, and then click Run from my computer.

I can't find the Customize command.
You might have removed the Toolbars command from the View menu, or removed the View menu or the Tools menu. To customize a toolbar if you removed the Toolbars command from the View menu — or if you removed the View menu or Tools menu — right-click a button on any toolbar or the menu bar, and then click Customize on the shortcut menu.
To restore the Toolbars command to the View menu, right-click a button on any toolbar or the menu bar, and then click Customize on the shortcut menu. Right-click the View menu, and then click Reset on the shortcut menu.
To return the Tools or View menu to the menu bar, right-click any toolbar or the menu bar, and then click Customize on the shortcut menu. Click the Commands tab. In the Categories box, click Menu bar. In the Commands box, drag Tools or View to the menu bar.
Show default toolbar buttons and menu commands
1. On the Tools menu, click Customize, and then click the Options tab.
2. Click Reset my usage data.
Notes
· The Reset my usage data button affects the buttons shown on a built-in toolbar only if it is not wide enough to display all the buttons. It affects the menu commands shown on the short version of built-in menus only if you have the Menus show recently used commands first check box selected on the Options tab in the Customize dialog box (Tools menu).
· The Reset my usage data button affects only the toolbar buttons and menu commands in Microsoft Outlook.
· The Reset my usage data button does not change the location of toolbars, does not remove any buttons or commands you've added by using the Customize dialog box, and does not add buttons or commands you've deleted.
