Anyone familiar with the backup utility of windows 2k?.. I have a tape that can hold 4gb of uncompressed and 8gb of compressed data.

I've been trying to find a way to see how much gb(S) i need to back up my data but i can find no such status (or equivalent) bar @ the bottom of the backup utility GUI. I tried to calculate the total size myself and it's roughly about a little over 8gb (which I shouldn't have had to).

The problem is I need to get it all onto one tape since no one will be here when the backup starts(including me). So if it's going to need a tape swap I'm going to back up just enough to fit a tape and do another backup tomorrow.

So my question is will 8.2gb fit on this tape? How much does the data get compressed?.. This may sound like a stupid question but I know that some data does not compress as well as others. Thanks in advance.

Hi ,
Only way to test this is to try it out or else use a third party backup software like Varitas or Arcserver .

So I'm out of luck eh?.. this is stupid tho.. even Roxio's easy CD creator lets u know how much space the data u selected is going to take..

Thanks..
