I am working in Quark 5.0 PC platform. I cannot get text boxes to overlay over another text box. For example in Illustrator you can type a sentence, then type another sentence and place one on top of another. When I do this in Quark the bottom text box moves text around in the box. I can lay text on top of a picture box, but not text over text. The layers command will not allow me to do it either. Any suggestions? Thank you.

What you do is select each text box, go to the Item Menu> Runaround, and where it says Text, select none for your runaround. That should solve the problem!

Thank you for your reply, but the bottom text still disappears when a second text box is placed over the top. Any other ideas?

You have to do that runaround for BOTH text boxes. And if your text box that is on top has a colour then you have to make the box colour to none. To do this select the text box and go to Item>Modify>Box>Color and select the colour to NONE. Hope this works for you.

Strictly speaking you only have to alter the runaround settings for the box on top. By default, this also sets the box color to none, although you should double check this as Pixelchik described. I can't imagine your problem being anything other than runaround.

The idea of runaround is that when you place an object over some text, the text underneath moves out of the way to accomodate this object - it runs around the item so you can still read it. Obviously there are times when this isn't desirable, and setting it to none effectively turns off this feature.
