i have messed up poledit.
i was putting in the allowed programs and i forgot to put the file extensions, so i can't run anything. can i recover from this or will i have to reinstall windows?
please help

For the small amount of time it takes to install the OS it's usually prudent to re-install rather than try to recover only to be "Bit" later down the road.

Good Luck

for future ref i found the answer and here it is:

with thanks to John Woram

if you mess up and can't run poledit or sysedit etc

then

Create and save a text file as c:\Recover.reg that consists of the following text:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\POLICIES\EXPLORER]

"RestrictRun"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\POLICIES\SYSTEM]

"DisableRegistryTools"=dword:00000000

Boot to a dos prompt (press F8 as soon as you see the Starting win**)

choose command prompt only

type:

Regedit Recover.reg

this loads the two lines into the registry

reboot the machine and you can now run poledit again to fix the mistakes.
