Hello - I have a strange problem.

I have 2 computers on my home wireless network. A laptop with Vista Home Premium and a desktop with XP Pro. Everything worked great until I had a problem with my desktop and decided to wipe it and rebuild it.

Now, my laptop can't ping the desktop. I can see the desktop through my "View computers and devices" option. But if I try to open that computer to see shared folders, Vista tells me it cannot access it. I have file and print sharing installed on my desktop.

My desktop sees my laptop fine, and can access all files.

I've also tried flushing my DNS.

Can anyone help me narrow down the problem?

do you have any extra firewalls in place?

Max
Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience

Just have the firewall on my router turned on, but it hadn't changed...

Some anti virus software have hidden firewalling components.
Can you access a shared folder from Vista if both machines are running in "Safe Mode with Networking"?

Open the SP2 firewall, and enable exceptions for File and Printer Sharing. In addition, under the 'Advanced' tab of the Firewall, use the ICMP box to enable ICMP echo requests from your LAN.
