Help with explaining a technique... 1

Guys can you have a look at

See how in the movie the tiles come out and the pic of the bently shows up? Are they doing that with mask or what? Is that tweening masked squares that reveal the pic underneath?

Can one of you guys explain this or maybe work up an example?
