Help with ColdFusion decission.

I just bought Allaire Spectra and I am finding myself lost! I have no prior ColdFusion programming but am fluent in several other languages...HTML, FLASH, JAVA, PERL...etc. I am thinking I might need to get a hold of a ColdFusion book so as to learn it first. What I am trying to do is build an eCommerce web site, commercial quality, from the ground up using my own applications. I really don't want to use those premade shopping-carts. Those are so generic and not easily customized. If there are any other suggestions on which route I should take...I am all ears for I am new to this and want to go the best route possible with the easiest solution. Thanks
