Help with Broadband, Networking and Wireless router

Hi,

I'm new to home networking and I am stumped (I help run a network with hundreds of computers on and have no problems, but can I get hese two to talk to one another - no siree!)

Anyway - I have two machines, one running XP Pro and one running XP home - they are both connected to an Orange Livebox wireless router with ethernet cables. Now, before the router was introduced, both machines could talk to one another (on a workgroup called MSHOME) easily, as they were assigned fixed IP addresses - however, for the broadband to work, they need to have the 'Automatically assign an IP address' box checked.

So now, they can both go on the internet, but they won't talk to each other.

It seems I can have one, but not the other - and I want both!!

Any ideas?

What router was introduced? The Orange Livebox? What were they plugged into before the Livebox?

Why would a router force you to use DHCP? That isnt right, something is wrong there.
Can you set the available IP's to just a range of 2 IP addresses, then statically assign those two IP addys to your computers?

I know what you mean about not getting stuff to work at home... I am a network admin for a bank, I run all the pcs, servers, and as400, but I get home and something doesnt work and I cant make it work until I call tech support.

I finally found out the problem - Norton Firewall is on both machines and each one is blocking the other, so I've added to trusted machines and all is well.

Don't know why I didn't think of it sooner!!!
