My computer boots really slow. It's got Win XP HOme with 512MB, 6GB free hard drive .....

I tried running Bootvis.exe but that didn't run. I get some kinda "service not intialized" type of error. DOes anyone know if there is a particular service I need to have "activated".

Also, any advice how I can speed up the booting time.

Thanx

Try starting the Task Scheduler Service and set it to Automatic. Bootvis is being scheduled to run after next bootup.

Just run Bootvis and let it optimize your system. You may have to wait a minute or two for it to start after your next boot.

depending how long you have had your computer running, you might want to clean out your prefetch folder. located c:\windows\prefetch basically its a folder where xp puts shortcuts to programs/documents that you access frequently and caches them on start up to improve performance.
