Help I am new to access and have a database that the user wants to use a barcode scanner with. Mostly what they want to do is scan a code and have it display the record. I have been able to do this by using the search/replace window in access but this is much of a time saver for the user. Is there a way to automaticly call a record by scanning the barcode without having a special window open.

Thanks

Brian

You mean they want to scan the bar code and in the table view find the record?

Leslie

No, the database is used to track client files stored onsite and office. The table that has holds this information is accessed via a form and from this point they can search, add, and delete records. The first field on the form is a client number. This number is also on the client file in barcode. Right now in order for them to scan a barcode an call the matching record they have to place the cursor in the client number field, open the search window then scan the barcode and press enter. What we would like to have happen is that the action of scanning the barcode automaticly searches and displays the matching record without having to go through all the other steps.
Hope this makes sense

I am currently working on a Bar code DB.
I use a combo box which contains (in my case )a product code, by scanning the bar code into the product code field, this automatically pulls through the relevant details, in my case, product description etc etc

Is this what you're after???

Yes I believe that this is what I am looking for or atleast getting me going in the right direction. Could you give a few details on how you set it up.

Thanks
Brian

In that case, you said:

Right now in order for them to scan a barcode an call the matching record they have to place the cursor in the client number field, open the search window then scan the barcode and press enter.

change the part where place the cursor in the client number field, open the search window then scan the barcode and press enter to a combo box.

Thank You, Thank You and Thank You! The combo box Idea worked great users are happy so I am happy.

Just a side question can the dropdown arrow in the combo box be turned off or hiden?

Have a great day!

Brian

Glad you're ok now.
I haven't tried hiding the drop down on the combo box and I'm not sure how to, but if you do find out I'd like to know too!!

Good Luck
Jan

I do something similar by having a text box where you put the string you're searching for, then open a form displaying the data that meets the search criteria.
