Here's my config.
Linux server
sendmail 8.12+
mail client(s) pop3 and squirrelmail

Problem: having problems sending outgoing mail form WITHIN our local domain. We CAN send if outside and using our internal mail server. However, our netscape and mozilla clients work well.

The message we receive is "relaying denied".

We've got our relay-domains file properly defines and we've checked everything you've mentioned in your other posts. This problem seems to be related to squirrelmail only.

Any suggestions? Recommendations?

Thanks.

Bob

Hi Bob,

Is your mail server (which sends mails to internet) different than the one u mentioned (sendmail on Linux)?
Are you sending mails to any other mail server to send mails to internet?

Request more elaboration on your mail setup and contents of relay-domains file.. this will make it easier for me to understand the prob..

Symptom(s): ONLY WITH SQUIRREL MAIL ( other mail clients work OK )

When I use squirrelmail (web based mail client) to compose then send a mail message OUTSIDE of our domain I receive the following error message:
--
Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable
Server replied: 550 5.7.1 <kgcomm@aol.com>... Relaying denied
--
However, if I do the same thing from OUTSIDE of our domain it seems to occur without error.

Also, if I send a mail message from and to within our domain local network it works just fine.

Bob:

What i understand from ur last two post is as following.. Correct me if i am wrong..

U have a sendmail server mail5.financialdatacorp.com with which, u send mails outside the domain financialdatacorp.com as well as send the mails within this domain. Sending mails within financialdatacorp.com domain (from abc@mail5.financialdatacorp.com to xyz@mail5.financialdatacorp.com) is fine, but when you try to send mail with xyz@mail5.financialdatacorp.com to user in other domain kgcomm@aol.com, u get relaying denied error.

I have not worked with Squirrelmail mail client so far..So i dont know how it functions..

Just try putting your hosts FQDN infront of DS option (like DSmail5.finanxxxxx.com) And restart sendmail.. Let me know if it works..

Also, in case you are sendmail mails to internet / other domain user using any other smart host, then try putting its name in DS option..

Also, checkout whether the feature RELAY_ENTIRE_DOMAIN has been compiled in your sendmail file. Otherwise, put mail5 machinename in your relay_domains file..

Your your sendmail.cf file appears to be okay, u may need to tewak with its option in order to get it work with squirrelmail..

Lemme know what happens..

All the best..
