I wrote an application, and my hard disk crashed. I had saved the project to another drive, but it did not save the forms! Now when I try to open the project it is looking for the forms on the crashed drive, that no longer exists! I have the EXE, setup.exe, cab files, .ddf. I have everything but the forms from the project! Basically save project as, did not save the darn forms. I have all the packaged stuff. HELP! Is there anyway I can get back my program into vb without rewriting months of code? I need the source code.

Hi eightball:

Given that you posted on the VB5&6 forum, I assume that you compiled with one of those versions. If so, then decompiling the EXE would be a nightmare only a fool or a hack would undertake.

Since the source code is not included in the EXE, CAB or setup.exe file, then they basically useless to recover the source code.

Unless you have a backup of the source code, you're up the creek without the proverbial paddle. The source code is stored in files with extensions like BAS, CLS, FRM, FRX, and others.

Your woes outline the importance of regular backups of the source code. Myself, I pack up (ZIP) the project files on a daily basis and transfer to CDRW disks.
