Hi All

I really screwed up, I deleted my contents of My Documents folder and the empted the recycle bin, believing I had a up to date back up. ( I didn't) I am praying begging does anybody know how I can restore/ undelete from FAT32 partition?

I tried unsuccessfully using some free trail software but thus far no luck.

Can anybody help.................

Many, many years ago on my old Commodore 64, I once had a program that enabled me to view each allocation unit on the hard drive. I was able to see the bytes that told the hard drive where the next sector was. Deleting a file was accomplished by simply changing the starting sector number to 0. The rest of the file was still there.

As I understand, modern hard drives basically work the same way. A deleted file (removed from the recycle bin) has simply had it's starting cluster set to 0.

Your best bet is to use one of the Norton Utilities to restore your files. However, it is VERY important that you NOT use your HD for any more file creation as you will likely overwrite your lost data. Be prepared to install a utility on a second HD (or network computer) and repair your HD from there.
