Help tutorials etc

I am new to visual fox pro and have just purcahsed version 8. I have only previously used access to generate all our schools databases but need to link into an sql database now but i am having great difficulty at getting to grips with the program as their are no tutorials or manuals that came with the program and cannot get any till some time in may. any help or tutorials on the program i would be gratefull for.

You may want to start by using the Keyword Search and entering SQL ODBC, I get more then hundred posts on the subject. It might be a start.

We're glad you found this forum... It's a great place to get answers to your questions!

It's impossible, though, to give a complete tutorial on such a large subject in a limited space; particularly because there are different opinions about how to do what you want to do (VFP is very flexible...)

However, to get you started, these are the main options you have:
1) Use a database container with Remote Views that connect to the SQL database.
2) Use SQL Pass-through: SqlConnect/SqlStringConnect, and SqlExec

These don't have to be mutually exclusive, either...

A hint, too, is that you don't need DSN's on the client machines if you use SqlStringConnect instead of SqlConnect (there's a faq about this, and several topics on the fox wiki).
