I came in this morning to find one of the 4 drives in my dbserver's raid array failed. I got that back online and everything seems fine except now when I try to use enterprise manager I get the following error:

A connection could not be established to (local).

Reason: Cannot open user default database. Login failed.

Please verify SQL Server is running and check your SQL Server registration properties...

I restarted the computer several times. Stopped and started the service and checked the registration properties. Everything looks fine.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Shannan

It sounds to me like you havn't got Named Pipes enabled.

to do this open the SQL Server program group,
open the "Client Network Tool"
Make sure that Named Pipes is in the Right hand pain..

I actually gave up and reinstalled the db program and restored the database. I will make a note of this and try this in the future if I have a problem.

Thanks,

Shannan

Before you reinstall the WHOLE database program, just try reinstalling the Enterprise Manager. From the install disk, choose Client Tools Only, then you will get a window that lets you choose which client tools you want installed.
