help!! oracle services not starting

OS= Windows XP
Oracle DB= 8.1.7 personal edition
Developer 6i

The database was running perfectly until one day when we logged it the error occured 'oracle not available'

i observed the services the status of oracle database service was starting but it did'nt started therefore i tried to start it manually but it showed the timeout error. Also the listenere is showing the error 'cannot start service on local system'.

pls help me. i am waiting for your response. it is urgent. pls give me a descritive solution if possible.

What is in your alert.log/listener.log files? Is your firewall configured to allow Oracle services? Try to find out what has been changed since your last successful login.
