I am presently working on a particular Universe. A new Universe is created including some new tables and fields, I need to refer to that Universe in all my existing reports.

Issue with Designer:
When I am trying to open that Universe in Designer its giving me the following error
'Universe connection is not accessible'

Issue with Business Objects:
When I try to change the Universe for an existing report to point to the new Universe (using Data -> View Data), its giving me an error message, saying the objects that I created in the Universe are not present eventhough I had copied all the objects I created to this new Universe.

Please help me in solving this.

Thanks & Rgds

Issue1:

Check the Universe Connection parameters (File - > Parameters - > Connection). Make sure the Connection Exists and it is valid and pointing to the appropriate database.

Issue2:

Do you get "Obsolete Objects are deleted" message??? I don't get you when you say copied all the objects to new universe. But surely the Objects used in the report are not present in the New Universe. Do a check for the Objects w.r.t the New Universe.

Hi Sri,

Thanks for the suggestion, Issue1 got resolved.. I was looking at the connections that are existing and they were working fine, but did not realise that this universe was not connected to those existing connections.

Issue2, I had created some report objects which are used in multiple reports in the universe, for example footer timestamp, project budget etc., I had copied these objects into the new Universe, even then my report says these objects are Obsolete. One way I was able to do is map those fields on the report again to the objects I copied, its working fine.

I want to know, if I am missing something else do I need to redo all the mappings as above.

Thanks & Rgds

Hi Jags,

When you get that Obsolete Message click on the Details and check the Objects that are giving the Message. Make sure the object names are exactly same in both the Universe. Even the case of the Objects name. Surely something to do with the Object Names.
