I have a windows 2000 server that will be replaced in the next few weeks with a windows 2003 server. This was upgraded from NT 4.0 before I was hired and at this point I would assume that this is running in Native mode. This is the only server that is in this domain and it has a trust relationship with our primary domain. I will need to move all the user accounts and permissions along with an sql database to this server. When all is complete the old windows 2000 server will be completely removed from the picture. I have been to microsofts site and started doing some research, but was hoping to get some direction from someone who has had some hands on experience.
Thanks for any response.

g8orade,

So much depends on the services running and settings of same it is difficult to provide a step procedure.
But Microsoft has a toolkit to accomplish exactly what you are faced with.

Microsoft File Server Migration Toolkit

Hope This Helps

executing the Windows Server 2003 ADDPREP /ForestPrep and /DomainPrep in a Windows 2000-based forest and domain would enable you to dc promo your 2003 server into the 2000 forrest.
After this the 2003 server will be a domaincontroller in your forrest. You need to see what fsmo roles are on the 2000 server and seize them to the 2003 dc. Now you can demote the 2000 server as a member server and still use it as a sql server in your domain.
