help on java system call 1

Hi,

can someone tell me from where java has this system call from:
system time new Date(system.currentTimeMillis.

the reason for this call is that java is returning some date that is different from what I have when I run # date on a shell.
my machine is ibm 7044 running aix 5.1L.

Allocates a Date object and initializes it to represent the specified number of milliseconds since the standard base time known as "the epoch", namely January 1, 1970, 00:00:00 GMT.
Parameters:
date - the milliseconds since January 1, 1970, 00:00:00 GMT.
