Help!!! My friend forgot his notebook poweron password!!!

Hello Techies,

My friend called me and asked me how to reset the password, which he set, and forgot. He is having DELL notebook...I am trying myself thru forums to find the way to reset...If it didn't work, no way...I have to call DELL techies....

Pls if someone experienced this before..pls let me know the resolvation....Thanks guys in advance.....

hmmm... Find your manual. Because if all else fails, you are going to have to open it up and reset some jumpers, if that doesnt work you might have to pull out the CMOS battery(although i dont think this can be done in a laptop...).

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your resposes..I have visited DELL Talk..and found that..they are putting some master password in all notebooks and they are having some database mapped with the service tag numbers ....If we forget the system power on or HDD password, we have to call them to 1-800-...number and have to give the owner and service tag details..then they will give you the primary password of the notebook, which is predefined when shipping or manufacturing....By that password, we can disable or change the existing password...
