In windows 2000 one of the features in DHCP is to use vendor options. I already have defined a vendor class on the workstations and the server (I've researched that part in the windows help) called custom1. The workstation will give its vendor class by sending the vendor class identifier (code 60) as route2 (hex 71 6f 75 74 65 32 in the data field on the server for custom1 vendor class). The server can now identify the custom1 vendor class for the workstation. I now wish to define a custom gateway (reference default user class option 3) of 192.168.001.002 as a predefined option to my custom1 vendor class. I right click the dhcp server in the mmc, select set predefined options, and choose my custom1 vendor class in the option class. No option names are currently defined. I can add an option which I can later impliment into the scope options as a vendor specific option. Can you help me at this point as to the name, data type/array, code, and code data I should input when I press add? The help in 2000 defines how the option data is sent for the default user class option 3 as "code len a1 a2 a3 a4 b1 b2..." where code=3 len=size of address field and a1-4 b1-4 is the gateways assigned. currently the default data is sent as "3 4 192 168 1 1". Am I going about this the wrong way? Do I need to be defining a user specific option on the client and server? The sole purpose is to define specific computers to use custom settings from DHCP which microsoft talks alot about being able to do but never explains how.

After further research, I have concluded the way to go is using the "user" class specific options.
