hello,
we just got a T1.. and i put a t1 csu/dsu card into our cisco 1720 router version 12.1. when i type
show ip interface brief
i have Bri0. Bri0:1, bri0:2 and faster ethernet.

there is also an ISDN card in the router.
"show hardware" lists fast ethernet and isdn interface but no t1 card.

What am i doing wrong? Do i need to update the IOS? Or is there a command i should type to "enable" the new card. I have reset the router numerous times.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!

Probably upgrade. I ran into this when I installed an ethernet WIC in a 1720. I don't recall what version I had, but now it's 12.2 and it works fine. Although I've never had trouble with a T1 WIC, that's what I'd try first.

Thanks, i hope that does it.. I am supposed to see a serial interface? My card doesnt have a serial port.. the t1 csu/dsu doesnt have anylights on.. but there is a green light under it that shows WIC 1 ok.

thanks again..

schne10134,

Run the command "show diag" and if it says something like unidentified module, then the IOS doesn't support the module. I don't recall the exact wording but that's what I have seen before when the IOS doesn't support the module.

"show hardware" gives you basically the same output as "sh ver" does. "show diag" will give you the characteristics (ie. version/revision, serial, etc) of all the modules installed including the system board.

I believe IOS 12.1 is supposed to support the WIC-1DSU-T1 and if so, you might have a bad card.

Hope this helps!

Chris that was great advice! this is what i see

WIC Slot 1:
Unknown WAN daughter card
Hardware revision 64.0 Board revision 0x33

Does that mean the card will never be accepted, or that i need to update IOS?

thanks again!

Just update IOS

I had the problem on a brand new 2691. Wouldn't see any T1 WIc

Had to open a TAC with Cisco

They were very good. Sent me a link and password to download a new IOS.
