(HELP) images change colour when I import them into quark

I have created my pages in photoshop (cmyk colours) I have saved them as TIFF files and EPS files but whenever I import them into quark they are much brighter. The print quality of these images is also a bit dodgy when I print from quark, where as directly from photoshop they are perfect.
any ideas would be seriously appreciated!

Quark, by default, will only show a 'preview' image when you import pictures. They're not meant to be an accurate representation, and CMYK images usually do look much brighter. Also, if you are printing to a non-postscript printer, it will use this preview image instead, which explains the print quality.

If you want your prints to look similar to what you would get from a commercial printer, either use a postscript printer (a bit expensive) or get a software RIP for your existing one (if available, it'll fool your printer into thinking it's postscript). Alternatively, save your pages as EPS files or PDFs (if you have the facility) and print them from Illustrator or Acrobat.

You can also change the "display" level of TIFFs in Quark so they look a little better onscreen from Edit - Preferences - Application - and then setting the two TIFF options to higher levels.

I run into this all the time. The preview of Quark is definately a weak one. As blueark said it is only a preview. The pix will print fine. Let freedom ring!
