I'm logging onto a Windows 2000 machine and I set it to map to a network drive on the Novell server. I'm authenticated fine, but when it tries to map the network drive, it asks me for my password. When I type the correct password in, it tells me that it couldn't connect to the drive. So I try to map the drive manually via the red "N" in my tray. I can see the server when I browse and I can select the volume I want to map, but when I press the Map button, it says "Network name cannot be found". I don't get it at all. Could it be a licensing issue? Or is it something else? I'm suspecting an NDS issue. It doesn't make sense to me. Please help.

Hi,

Isolate the problem. Have you tried it with a different user? A different workstation? Does the problem follow the user or the hardware?

Lou

It follows all users. The only way to solve it is to reboot the server. That's unacceptable.

Hi,

Well you see I understood as it was affecting one user and now your saying that all is well for a while and then it affects all users.

No restarting the server is not acceptable.

I would write down things such as Utilization, cache buffers, File and Directory cache buffers whne the server is first restarted. When the problem appears again, check these again. There are many things that can cause this type of symptom.

Lou

How do I check file and directory cache buffers? Just learning Netware...bare with me.

Hi,

Throught the monitor screen. To make things easier, you can Console over to the server and grab screen shots. I would grab as much info as possible, if your unsure about something, capture it.

Lou

Is it under system resources. I know where to grab the utilization and cache buffers.

"I'm logging onto a Windows 2000 machine and I set it to map to a network drive on the Novell server"

does this mean you are manually mapping these?
does the script run

is your slp correct

go to a dos box and check with
slpinfo /all

are you pure ip or ipx as well

The scripts run okay. I only tried manually mapping after the automatic mapping (after login) failed.

As soon as I logon, I'm authenticated, I see Windows firing off my drive mappings, then during that a box pops up saying I had an incorrect password, so I typed the password in again and another box comes up saying: "An error occured Netware Services: The network name cannot be found. Connection cannot be restored."

Have you looked inside your SYS:SYSTEM\SYS$LOG.ERR file to see what kind of errors are being reported on the server console?

is it just to one server you get this
the password sounds more like it's asking for a bindery connection to the box
