Hello every one

I have a cisco 1000, that has no serial but a 10BaseT for the console connection.

I have connected it to my desktop and assinged an IP to the Nic, using Hyperterminal trying to get the router prompt going through the port 23 (which is the default when I type in the ip address) but no connection.

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks much.

You should connect the console cable to the port named "console". It is not a 10baseT interface, even using a RJ-45 connector.
Connect the console cable to your PC (COM 1 port) and configure HyperTerminal accepting all values except the speed, which should be changed to 9600bps.
Take a look at this link:

oh thanks so much.

I had the wrong cable.

Got to go and buy a rollover console cable (RJ-45-to-RJ-45) to the console port on the router.

Thank you
