..I'm just wondering is it possible to configure a server (maybe in bios or something) to power back on after a power failure.

...i'm using windows 2003 server although i cant see the setting being software related.

..my guess is that fancier hardware/bios probably supports this function.

Who is your servers the Hardware Vendor?

HP has ILOManager that allows you to remotely power up and power down a server.

IBM has IBM Director, which does much of the same thing.

I think you want to also invest in an UPS to handle most outages so that server stays up.

..this server is just a home server that i built, no special hardware.

...i do have a UPS ..but even then ups's dont last but a couple of hours...

.... i'm just surprised to think there is not an option in bios for even a normal computer to recover after a power failure..

Have you looked at the BIOS? Many do have a power up after AC power is back.

Older computers it was no problem because they had hard power switches but for ATX you need a BIOS that supports that feature.

Most current ones do have that option but depends on your board manufacturer and the target market for it I'm afraid.
