Hi,

I need some help setting up a few backup jobs in Veritas 9.1. I have tried some methods in the past and it does not work. Here is one of the other problems, another employee switches out most of the tapes, not me. We have a VXA-2 Tape Autoloader, and we have 18 tapes, and 1 cleaning tape so we have A1-A9 and B1-B9. I would like to do a full dump each night, we really dont have that much data, 50GB or so. I'm not sure how to define a media set or a schedule that is easy for everyone to follow. Any help would be appreciated. Please ask questions and I will try to explain more.

So we can assume there are 18 tapes in the loader all the time? How often dp you pull the tapes and what is you rotation of tapes

There is 9 tapes in at a time. We usually rotate when we run out of tapes, unless we figure something else out that will work.

Well You can setup 5 jobs - one for each day of the week.
Partition the library for 5 single slot partition and direct Job 1 to Monday, Job 2 to Tuesday, etc. This way you always know what slot to pull from if pulling a tape out daily. This assumes everything fits on one tape.
Or you could partition the library for a 5 slot partition and use one job. So if you pull 5 tapes out every week then lets say they will not be back in for two weeks then set the overwrite protection period for two week on the media set and the job for overwrite only. Many ways you could do this.
