Hello and Thanks to all who respond before I even start!!

I am trying to run software I downloaded from zdnet.com that allows me to download digital voice recordings continuosly from my hand held recorder. I am downloading it from the recorder as wav format and about 10 minutes into the recording the whole system freezes and I have to reboot. I am using my personal pc with a P2 333 Proc., 168 megs of ram and 4gigs of harddrive. I am using Win98 as my operating sysytem. I go into Control+Alt+delete and shutdown irrelavent tasks and still it freezes up. Does anyone have any clue as to what could be causing this and or have any links to some better software??

Thank you once again for your time and response's!! I wonder what life would be like in a perfect PC world where nothing went wrong... *dreams and drools*

For starters, I wouldn't have anything runnin inthe background period. Shut down any and all running progs before you start this transfer...Win 9x are notoriously bad mulsti-taskers, especially w/media transfers like this. Buffer underruns, etc. are common-place when anything in the background muddle sthings up. This includes virus scans, utilities managers like Norton, task schedulers, etc. Dunno...maybe this'll help...

I agree with carrr, and to further clarify in case you are a little unsure how -go to START >RUN>type in MSCONFIG>put a check in SELECTIVE STARTUP and remove the check from LOAD STARTUP ITEMS. Then reboot. Besure and do a ctrl alt delete before downloading to turn off any processes that are coming on still (except of course those needed for your online connection). Be sure and reset the startup group items when you get thru - this would be a good time to edit this pesky group if needed.

Something else you might consider deamon is how long has it been since you have defraged your hd and how full is it? If you are letting windows manage your swap file and your hd is full then you are running out of resources. try setting your virtual memory to twice your ram min and max which would be 336 if 168mb ram is installed. the other two responses are right on also, just so you know for next time, dont do everything at once. try one thing if that doesnt work then try something else, that way you will know exactly what it was and how to fix it next time. good luck everyday you learn something new, the day you dont is the day you die....so make someone live longer teach them something.......MUTT

Deamon, all good advice above and I won't try to add to it but just one point, the title of your post...
"Hello and Thanks to all who respond"
You should try to make your post's titles something relevant to the question so that people who don't have knowledge of or interest in the subject can bypass them. I normally don't bother opening posts with titles such as yours as 90% of the time it turns out to be something I can't help with. Help us to help you, please post back and tell us if this helped.

Thank you guys for your responses! This is the actual Deamon. I let my buddy use my account while I was out incase he needed some help well I was gone. I went over to his house and set the swap file to 3x ram *not 2x*. I also did a selective starup and also thourough scan disk with hidden and system file repairs turned on. Also fixed the registry and then finally did a full defrag. We havent gotten around testing the system again to see if it stops freezing during the download but I'm figuring it will be ok now.

Thank you once again all! I wonder what life would be like in a perfect PC world where nothing went wrong... *dreams and drools*
