Is there a way to increase the mic volume (on the phone set) on the Plantronics headset furnished with my T7316 phone set? People complain it is not loud enough and when I attempt to leave a voice mail for someone while using the headset, I get a prompt to speak louder.

I'm assuming you've done the obvious and turned the volume up on the headset amplifier, but do you have the amplifier setup for the Norstar style hanset? On the side of the amplifier you should see a switch that needs to be set and your documentation that came with it should tell you which setting you should be using. You may have already done this, but I thought I'd give it a shot.

This headset doesn't have a amplifier. It plugs directly into the headset jack on the bottom of the phone.

Ok, do you have Handsfree setup on your phone? I've never had any problems with that, so I'm taking shots in the dark.

If you mean, does it have a speakerphone built in, yes it does.

Yeah, that's exactly what I mean. Like I stated above I've never had any issues with this, but I do know that in order for a headset to work properly with the T7316 phone you need to have Handsfree setup. Maybe someone else can jump in and help you out a little more.

Hey all. The headset quite problem is a kown issue with the T series set. It sucks but there it is. This is only pertinant for the GN Netcomm style direct for Norstar headsets. Amplified headsets work fine.
Just another reason why the T series is a step back in industrial design.

The headset is a Plantronics Polaris. I think we paid around $120 each. I bought a headset for $18 SKC Communication that is plenty loud. Not everyone in the office wants to buy there own to replace it. Since I work for the state, they only buy certain things from certain vendors.

I have had this problem with Plantronics Polaris headsets as well, with both the M and T series phones. I have had headsets that work fine for a few months and then start having problems. I assume it is a problem with the mic on the headset. Is yours still under warranty? Also the noise cancelling headsets seem to get more complaints than the standard ones.

First, make sure it is in the correct position. Two fingers off the corner of your mouth.

Also, I don't think any of the volume controls for any headset whether on an amplifier or not affect the volume of your voice, only the volume of what you hear.

Steve

Let me clarify. The volume problem exists in ALL direct plug in headsets for all T series telephone sets. You need the amplified ones. We've tried the plantronics, GNNetcomm, there was one at the Staples Store cheap but that didn't work either. It is a T series flaw.
