Hi, I have a system with a user on a M7310 with a Plantronics headset with a quick disconnect cord. The handset will not work unless the headset is fully unplugged from the phone. The quick disconnect does not work. There is a T series phone on the same system and I tried it there, it works 100% fine and the handset works with the headset still connected and working.

Any ideas?

The T-series have a different approach to the headsets - they can operate the speakerphone and the headset independently.

On the M-series, you have to make sure that you have them plugged in the right ports. The handset should still be able to function with the headset. You use "Handsfree/Mute" button to turn on the headset. If you pickup and it goes to handsfree, hookflash and it should come back to normal.

They are plugged into the right ports. The hands free button works for the headset fine. The handset does nothing.

Further to this. Is there a way I can (without the sys admin) swap the T phone with the M phone? It sounds like this may work.. but I'm not sure I have the right password.. any other defaults people use?

When set relocation is disabled the physical location (telephone jack) maintains the system programming. If a telephone is replaced when set relocation is disabled the new telephone will acquire the old telephone’s extension and settings.
For example: Brett (x235) and Patty (x230) decide to trade offices. They both want to keep their existing extensions so as to avoid confusion in call routing, so Brett goes into programming and enables set relocation. Brett then unplugs his telephone and replaces it with Patty’s. After moving all of her personal items Patty remembers that she needs to call her mother, so she presses a button on her telephone that she programmed years ago and smiles because it still works. At the end of the day Brett goes back into programming and disables set relocation leaving all options as they were before he moved the telephones.
Perform the following steps to activate/deactivate set relocation:

1) Press [FEATURE] **11111
2) Enter Password: 11111

Display will read: " Terminals & Sets"

3) Press: NEXT until the display reads: "System Programming"
4) Press: SHOW

Display will read: "Hunt Groups" or "Change DNs"

5) Press NEXT until the display reads: "Featr settings"
6) Press SHOW once

Display will read: "Backgrnd music"

7) Press NEXT until the display reads: "Set relocation"
8) Press CHANGE to toggle the setting to Yes or No
9) Press [RELEASE] to end the programming session

You can, theoretically, if you swap a M7310 with a T7316 (non-E). The T7316 is emulating an M7310. However, you will lose some of your upper buttons from the set. Your lower 10 buttons on the phone (lower 5 each side) will retain their settings- the ones above may be mixed up and some gone.

I would never use set relocation - way too much trouble and sometimes has mixed results - just have them swap cables in the telco room. Or, if a set goes bad, you may have to rebuild a set's programming. Swapping pairs and moving phones is much easier.

PLANTRONICS HAS DISCONED THE P SERIES HEADSET,THESE WORKED ON THE M SERIES PHONES. YOU CAN STILL GET THEM THE PART # IS P41-U10P OVER EAR OR THE P51-U10P 1 EAR HEADSET

I just ran into the same thing .
the new plantronics quick disconnect cord is a piece of crap and doesn't work like the old ones. As soon as you plug in the cord with no head set attrached the handset is dead.
i thought there was something wrong with it and had them send me another one. same story.
I talked to the tech at plantronics and he said they never did allow you to use the handset when they are plugged into the set. I told him i have been using them for the past 10 years and the hand set worked as soon as the head set is disconnected from the quick disconnect. Thats why we buy them. He said he has never heard of that before.
I asked him how long he has worked for plantronics , He said "Almost a year."

I have a H-81 Headset with a A10-16 cord. I take it that the problem then with the handset not working may be because of that?

Thanks for the info panzer on the swapping thing, I will avoid that based on your advice. I guess the best now is to hope my phone dies so I can get a new one, or we get a whole new system in the office :)

Any other tips or ideas would be great.

There is nothing wrong with the system it is the new A10-16 and the a10-12 s1 Quick connect cables now being sold by plantronics.
i would suggest that you look at another headset manufacturer.
possibly GN netcom.

Do the older Plantronics cables work with the H81 headset? Does anyone know the model #'s of compatible cables?

Ok, I got a older Plantronics headset as a loaner. Not sure of the model - it's a convertable (T13637 maybe??). It (and the cord it came with - which is different than the A10-16) works with the M7310. When I unplug the headset (at the quick disconnect point) the handset works. It does take about 1-2 seconds for the phone to register the headset is not plugged in anymore.

Thanks for you help all!

Thanks for starting this post, tdehnke, I didn't realize there was an issue.

No worries.. it sounds like Plantronics really needs to inform and be more open about this than it is..

Try using the Plantronics A10-SQD cable in place of the A10-16, when the headset is unplugged with this cable the handset should work.
