HDLC or PPP

We have just setup a new point to point T1 connection between our ofice and a remote location. We have a 2620 with a WIC-1DSU-T1 card connected to a 1720 with a WIC-1DSU-T1 v2 card. I would like some input from others that have set up point to point connections concerning the encapsulation. I can get both HDLC and PPP to work. Which is the better way to go?

If memory serves, HDLC is Cisco proprietory, so any Cisco-Cisco kit will work fine.

In the 'real' world, you might have a Cisco one end and (dare i say it) a s-h-i-v-a or other abomination the other end.

We always use PPP, but it's historical from binning the Shiva and 3Com cr@p in favour of the Cisco.

Guess it's down to personal preference

Neither one is better, just different.

If you're using pure Cisco, then it doesn't matter what protocol.

If you have a mixed environment, then use ppp for compatiblilty reasons.

Thanks for the help. I went with HDLC in our all Cisco network and so far it seems fine.
