Hey all,
I've got a server with a ton of user data on it that I would like to back up on a weekly basis. There is a DLTIV tape drive attached to the server via SCSI. The tape drive is recognized by Windows.
Due to the size of the backups, they will not fit on one tape. After some research, I've found that I have to prepare the media beforehand and place it in the free media pool through the removable storage manager, and that's where my problem lies.
When I put a tape in the tape drive, I can't get it to come up in any of the media pools at all. It's not in free, import, or unrecognized. When I view the physical locations, the tape drive is marked as empty even though I know it's not empty.
I know the tape drive works, and I can even use it through the ntbackup utility to make backups, but for some reason I can't seem to get the media to show up through the removable storage manager. Obviously I'm doing something wrong, and I was hoping somebody here might be able to offer me some advice in figuring it out?
