Having phone ring while on a call

Hi all, IP Office: 8.1.69

Is their a setting that can be changed to allow a handset to ring while on a call? Right now the Line appearance key flashes for the second incoming call but no ringing occurs.

Yes. Under the user, telephony, multi-line options. It is set to abbreviated by default.

Does this only apply to avaya phones? I have Nortel T7316 phones installed and when I change from abbreviated to ring it doesn't work.

After doing some research, The official Avaya manual for the T7316 and the official Avaya manual for the 1416 both say that for the feature Attention Ring you can only set it to "no ring" or "abbreviated ring". When you go into the Manager program it shows options for "Ring" or "Abbreviated Ring". These are conflicting. Which is true? I am hoping to be able to have the phone ring continuously if someone is engaged in a call.

Can only tell you for the 1415, Ring works to keep a 2nd call ringing more than once, while it is at the phone before covering to voicemail.

You should also go through the Features menu and set Show Waiting Call to ON so that the display will indicate what that 2nd call is.

Hi guys,

It didn't work. I changed the Attention Ring feature under Telephony from Abbreviated to Ring. I made a call out on line 1 and then called in and the line key just flashed. No ringing. All line keys are set to immediate ring. Any suggestions?

Line appearences is the issue, you should use appearance keys, the IP Office isn't a key system and doesn't respond well to being made to work like one unfortunately

I have 2 Call appearance buttons on the set along with the Line Appearance buttons. In theory shouldn't the Attention Ring feature still work?

I have changed the buttons to be all Appearance keys but the 1416 phone is still not ringing on the second call. Attention Ring has been changed to "Ring". Is there any other setting I'm missing?

Any suggestions? I changed all the line appearance buttons back to call appearance buttons and tested and it was worse than with the line appearances. Now with just call appearances the second call coming in doesn't even flash or ring the next call appearance. At least with the line appearance the button would flash showing their is a call coming in even though it wasn't ringing. Am I missing something?

Yes, you probably are, if it's group calls the group needs to be collective call waiting, if it's direct calls I suspect you have reserve last CA selected
