I currently have two Windows 2000 server standard DC's on my network. I also have a standalone Windows 2003 standard server not on the domain, just acts as a mail server. I indend to buy storage for the Windows 2003 server and would like to add it to the existing domain that the two Windows 2000 servers are on.

Can this be done???

I would like to utilize DFS, is it the same for Windows 2000 server and Windows 2003 server? Will I get the file replication? Also, the group policy in Windows 2003 server has a lot more options, will this work with the Windows 2000 server?

Yes, you can add that server to the domain as well as add storage to the box.
However, you probably dont have any 2003 CALs for your users. You'd need to buy some of those as well, 1 for every connection that will touch your 2003 server for any reason.

I dont know about Distrubuted File Systems.
My thoughts on Group Policy would be that you'd have to make this server a DC, then migrate the group policies you already have from the 2000 server to the 2003 server, then you could add more policies as long as it's a DC.

Probably wrong on the second part, but you definitely will need some 2003 server CALs.
